Hydroxyapatite coating of hip prostheses. Effect on migration into the femur

We studied two groups of femoral hip prostheses: 43 TiAlV ridged press-fit stems, and 26 with similar stems coated with hydroxyapatite on the proximal half. At one year, radiological measurement showed a mean downward migration of 0.99 mm for the TialV prostheses and 0.12 mm for the HA-coated prostheses (p = 0.0002). Hydroxyapatite coating appeared to provide effective bio-active supplementary fixation. This article has been cited by other articles:
