Most surgeons use some form of pharmacological prophylaxis, most commonly heparin. The precise balance of the benefits and risks is unclear, and serious complications can occur. We describe a case of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis syndrome in a 62-year-old woman after THR.
