Sir,
We read this article with great interest and would like to make the following point.
Although there is an obvious learning curve to navigation by CT-based and
imageless placement of the acetabular cup, one of the other issues is the
failure of the method of navigation system intra-operatively, as was seen
in this study in five of the cases. These patients should be included in
prospective trials in the analysis, in the group to which they were
assigned on an intention-to-treat basis, and we were disappointed at their
exclusion. We feel that it may generate bias to only present results
where the navigation system was successful.
