How much does it cost to subscribe?
We sell subscriptions to the British, Combined and American JBJS, as well as Combined CD-ROM/DVD-Rs, and the cost depends upon if you are a trainee/resident, a personal or institutional subscriber.

How will I know how much it will cost to renew my subscription next year?
If you subscribe directly to the JBJS British Office we automatically send you a renewal statement in advance of your subscription's expiry.

What is my subscription number?
This may be found within the top line of the address on the carrier sheet or address label, when your Journal, CD-ROM or DVD-R is delivered. If your subscription payment was sent to the British Journal Office in London, your number is a total of seven numbers beginning with two zeroes (00nnnnn).

I am a personal subscriber, how do I register for online access for the JBJS?
Prices include access to free full text online at www.jbjs.org.uk (British Volume JBJS) & www.jbjs.org (American Volume JBJS) for all current personal subscribers. The British and American JBJS websites are hosted by HighWire.
All address labels that are generated from the British Journal Office include a number beginning with 00, followed by a further 5 digits. This is your delivery account number. You will need to register using this number with the sites in the first instance.
JBJS American Volume (Printed)
If the delivery account number is 0012345 for example:
Register for full text on the AMERICAN JBJS website at www.jbjs.org using the following number: 12345B
JBJS British Volume (Printed)
If the delivery account number is 0012345 for example:
You will need to register for online activation on the site using the following number:

JBJS Combined Volume (Printed, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM)
You will need to register for online activation on both the British & American sites as per the two examples above.

Institutions that already have a subscription to the British Volume of the Journal, will need to activate the subscription online.

Do I need to know my IP address to register for online access?
Only institutional subscribers need to know their IP addresses when registering for online access on the British website.

How do I know which office I subscribe through?
Check the address label when you next receive your journal. If you subscribe through the British Journal Office, your label will begin with two leading zeroes, followed by five numbers, if it doesn’t, you subscribe through the American Journal Office.

What methods of payment does the British Journal office accept?
Payment in advance must be made by cheque in Pounds Sterling and drawn on a UK bank, or by MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Switch. Please include the issue number when paying by Switch.
Please note we do not accept Direct Debit payments.
We accept direct bank transfers only in exceptional circumstances, where currency exchange problems arise. Due to the difficulties we have with identifying these payments with our bank there may be some considerable delay in the processing of your order.
The International Department of your bank will be able to assist with cheque payments.

Can I pay by Credit Card over the telephone?
No, we require a signature against your credit card details to authorise deduction of payment. Please see methods of payment

I paid my subscription but I never heard anything from you.
We will acknowledge the receipt of your payment by email when requested.

I live in Japan, how do I subscribe to the JBJS?

Can I subscribe to the JBJS over the Internet?
Order forms are available on the website. These must be printed out and either faxed or posted to the subscriptions department.

When can i start my subscription?
Your subscription may start from any month within the current year.

Do you offer special subscription rates for trainees/residents?
Yes we do. Trainees/residents receive approximately 50% off the standard subscription price for a maximum period of up to 6 years or whilst still in training.

When I pay my subscription, how long will it take before I receive the first issue?
This will depend upon when your order was received and processed, the publication dates and the expected delivery time by surface mail.

How long does a subscription to the printed JBJS last for?
A subscription starts from the month that you specify and lasts for 12 months.

How long does a subscription to the JBJS Combined CD-ROM or DVD-R last for?
A subscription starts from the quarter that you specify and lasts for 12 months (3 further quarterly disks).

What do I get on the JBJS subscription Combined CD-ROM/DVD-R?
The CD-ROM/DVD-R contains the full text and all the images from all the articles published in both the British and American JBJS from 1996 to date.

How many issues are published of the CD-ROM/DVD-R?
A subscription lasts for one year and includes your initial disk containing 1996 to the recent quarter published, plus an update every three months, for one year (total of four disks).

What is the difference between the JBJS subscription Combined Volume on CD-ROM/DVD-R and the OrthoLine CD-ROM?
The JBJS subscription Combined Volume on CD-ROM/DVD-R contains full text and all images of the JBJS Combined from 1996 to present. The OrthoLine CD-ROM contains orthopaedic references selected from the extensive Medline database.

What is the difference in content between the JBJS British and American Volumes?
The two volumes are totally different to each other and there is no duplication of published material.

Before telephoning the subscriptions office, what information should I have in front of me?
Your subscription reference number with us, the full delivery address of your Journal or order and any other dates that are significant that will enable us to deal with your query easier (eg. date posted/faxed/emailed, address sent to etc). I would like to subscribe to the Combined JBJS (printed), what does it include?
The Combined JBJS (printed) includes the 12 issues of the JBJS American Volume, the 12 issues of the JBJS British Volume, any supplements published with the two volumes and free online access to the full text.

Do I have to be a qualified orthopaedic surgeon to subscribe to the JBJS?
No you don't; many Companies, Libraries and Institutions subscribe.

I notified you of my change of address but journals are still being sent to my old address..
Please notify us as soon as possible before you change your address. When your address is changed on our database it does not automatically change the address on those Journals that are still in transit. Your address change is effective from the next issue that is released. Please arrange for a redirection service on your post so that you do not miss any issues.

What is the cost of delivery for the JBJS?
The price of the JBJS (printed) includes delivery by surface mail. For air mail a price supplement must be paid.
The price of the JBJS (CD-ROM/DVD-R) includes delivery by air mail.

Can I buy the American JBJS through the British Journal Office?
Yes, you can. It is also less expensive to order the Combined Volume than to order the British and American Volumes separately.

How many supplements are published with the British Volume?
There are usually three supplements published each year with the British Volume, however sometimes there are two or four supplements.

I have not received the quinquennial index lately..
The last quinquennial index published covered the years 1988-1992 and was published in 1993. The index is no longer published. There is an author and subject index published in the British and American Volumes in the last issue of each year.

I subscribe through a subscription agency, but I am missing an issue, how do I claim a replacement copy?
Please contact your agent directly through whom your payment was made. Your agent will contact us on your behalf.

I have my journals bound each year; do you still sell binders?
We have not sold binders for the JBJS for many years. Please contact your local binders who will be pleased to help.
